At 1 Sewardstone Close, we know that it’s important for activities and rehabilitation to be meaningful to each person. That’s why we have a Lifestyle Coach and Fitness Coach as part of our team.
Our Lifestyle Coach, Theresa Cavalla, works 1:1 with some of our clients delivering person centred and tailored programs to meet individual’s needs.
Activities may include cooking, knitting, reading, woodwork, gardening, attending the hairdresser’s or beautician’s or bringing in Arthur the dog for therapy based activities for our animal lovers.
As well as individual activities, there is also a running schedule of group activities within the home. This is changed on a weekly basis depending on the needs of the residents so we can be as flexible as possible and ensure there is something of interest for everyone.
Group activities include accessing the local community on walks to the local nature reserve, trips to the cinema and shopping centres. All community based activities include an element of occupational therapy, practicing skills such as money management and road safety. Other group activities include woodwork projects, gardening projects, brunch club and very soon to be breakfast club.
Having a certificate in Art & Design, Theresa holds arts and crafts session every week where there is always a new theme!
Events in the home such as birthdays, anniversaries, parties and community based events are all planned by the residents with a little assistance from Theresa.
Our Fitness Coach, Curtis Ujeh, works 1:1 with most of our clients. The programmes include working on stamina and improving fatigue levels, core strength, improving muscle tone, confidence and motivation.
These are achieved through low level weight training, boxercise, dance, and outings in the community such as long walks and running. Curtis also assists clients to access the local swimming pool and gym.
As well as individual activities, there is also a schedule of group activities within the home. On Mondays, Everybody Keep Fit is for everyone to join in with; residents, staff team, visitors and families are all welcome at this session. Dance to Keep Fit every Tuesday is for residents and their families. Smaller group sessions of Chair Aerobics and Weights are held throughout the week.
