Making Wishes Come True

As 2021 drew to a close we decided to make our resident’s dreams come true by granting each of them a wish every day in the run-up to Christmas!

Nothing is more important to us than knowing our residents are happy and fulfilled, so December was a particularly special time.

Michael, who has lived at 1SC for ten years, is a passionate vintage car enthusiast. His wish was for classic cars so we arranged for two vintage cars to visit our home, just for Michael. The first, a 1952 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, built by coachbuilders to King George V1 and recently used in ‘The Crown’ on Netflix. The second, a 1960 Rolls Royce S11, previously owned by celebrated singer Engelbert Humperdinck.

David Lord, owner of Lord Cars who helped grant Michael’s wish said: “We like to support local causes, especially at this time of year. And we are always delighted to show off our cars and talk to people who are interested. So, it has been a pleasure to do this for Michael.”

Michael used to work in classic car restoration and once built a Bugatti Kit Car from scratch with his father. He said: “This has made all my Christmas wishes come true at once”.

Our Home Manager, Marie Goodwin told us: “We worked really hard with the help of the local community to fulfil as many wishes as possible over the festive period. Thank you to everyone who supported us. It’s been amazing!”

Other wishes included a James Bond Movie night for Julian, while Simon and Vu’s wish was fittingly festive; to go to London’s Winter Wonderland!

Sami’s wish to go to the Oval Cricket ground was particularly good fun to grant, as we went off to explore the cricketing history of this legendary stadium! The smiles on everyone’s faces said it all!
